How to measure your rooms for an online carpet or vinyl quote
1. Before you start
Our online quote system relies on the measurements you enter. We will check measurements before fitting where a verification visit is arranged or required, but accurate initial measurements help us give you the best possible guide price.
- Use a tape measure, ideally a metal tape measure.
- Measure in metres or centimetres and be consistent.
- Measure each room separately.
- Measure the widest and longest points, including alcoves and doorways where flooring needs to run into them.
- Round up slightly rather than down.
2. Simple square or rectangular rooms
- Measure the longest length of the room from wall to wall.
- Measure the widest width of the room from wall to wall.
- Enter those two measurements into the online quote tool.
- If the room is not perfectly square, measure at the widest points.
3. L-shaped or irregular rooms
Please contact us or book a home visit.
4. Doorways, bay windows and alcoves
Include any areas where the carpet needs to run, including door recesses, bay windows and alcoves. Do not measure only the visible open floor area if the flooring needs to go beyond it.
5. Stairs, landings and hallways
Stairs, landings and hallways are more complex and often require careful planning, joins and direction changes. We strongly recommend using our measuring videos or booking a home visit for these areas.
6. Furniture and access
When requesting a quote, please tell us if rooms contain heavy furniture, appliances, pianos, fitted wardrobes, restricted access, high-rise flats, parking restrictions or other issues that could affect fitting.
7. Home measurement verification
If you are unsure, please book a free home visit or measurement verification where available. We measure, bring samples and help you choose the right product before you commit to the final order.
8. Important reminder
Measure twice. If in doubt, ask us before placing an order. We would rather check measurements early than risk delays or additional costs later.
